CONCRETE AND BRICK WALLS IN NEW ZEALAND

May 7, 2019

Is your home, school, or office experiencing dampness and excess moisture? Before you begin addressing the symptoms of the dampness, we recommend taking the time to track down the root cause of your problem. If your building has concrete or brick walls, then this is a good place to start. In our experience, making some simple repairs to your concrete or brick walls and then sealing them with extra protection can make a world of difference.

WHY IS MY HOME OR OFFICE DAMP?

Concrete and brick walls are a common feature in many homes, schools and offices in New Zealand. Unfortunately one of the most common problems that people experience with their concrete or brick walls is dampness and moisture inside.

That’s because your concrete or brick walls could be letting in excess moisture. In some cases, the mortar in between the bricks has broken down over time and this is allowing dampness into your building. Other times it’s holes in the mortar that are the culprits. Either way, the result is the same: damp buildings with problems like rotted carpets or a lingering smell, and dangerous mould. Along with these external symptoms, dampness can also wreak havoc inside your walls, causing steel to corrode and timber to rot.

HOW TO FIND THE CAUSE OF MOISTURE INSIDE?

Unfortunately, interior dampness is often misdiagnosed. In many cases people begin to address the symptoms of the moisture by replacing rotted carpet and GIB, or recladding, plastering or painting the exterior over top of the brick or concrete. However without finding the root cause, these solutions won’t last.

HOW DO I FIX MY LEAKING WALLS QUICKLY?

For a long-term remedy to your dampness and moisture problems, we recommend getting to the heart of the issue. First an assessment from DURAPROOF. can determine the underlying cause of dampness in your building. Once we have found the problem within the brick or concrete walls, we can set about repairing them. For example if we found that the main problem within your brick wall was that the mortar had holes in it, then we would fill the holes with a sealant to prevent any more moisture from coming through.

LONG-TERM PROTECTION FOR YOUR WALLS

We believe in providing long-term protection, so our next step is to apply Duraflex as an outer skin to guard your building from any future moisture problems. Duraflex is a hardwearing, waterproof coating, that is simply sprayed onto the wall to add a durable layer of protection. It’s proven to protect against all the elements – it even stands up against wild Wellington wind and rain. We’ll apply as many coats as it takes to make sure it’s truly sealed and ready to withstand any conditions for years to come. Its attractive grey colour looks similar to a painted surface, so it can really sharpen up your building’s appearance too.

GET RID OF DAMPNESS FOR GOOD!

By addressing the underlying problem in your home, school, or office’s concrete and brick walls, you can get rid of excess moisture and dampness for good. DURAPROOF, and our professional and simple repair work, will not only protect the visible parts of your building like your carpets, but it makes sure that the steel and GIB inside your walls are safe from corrosion and rot as well – helping you avoid a much larger headache.

If you’re struggling to deal with excess moisture, don’t hesitate to get in touch today to find out how DURAPROOF and Duraflex can help!
